May 2020 Wines

June 3, 2020

Another month has gone by. I think people are finally settling into this quarantine/social distancing zone. I’ve started seeing many more people observing the distancing rules and wearing masks when in public. As summer creeps in though, it’s starting to feel like more of a loss. The weather is nice and there’s an increased feeling of the need to be outside and around others. It’s a good thing there is good wine to distract us with! I’m hoping most everyone has a place they can enjoy the outdoors though. Kirkland Signature 2019 Rosé – Rating 4/5 This wine was from…

April 2020 Wines

May 6, 2020

April seems to have flown by, but at the same time lasted forever. It’s all a bit of a blur at this point in these quarantimes. I’m thankful that my wine clubs are still shipping, the temperature is getting warmer, and the sunshine is lasting longer. I also don’t mind my social media feeds being filled with photos of bread baking. I hope everyone is still staying safe and sane in these wild times. Dom Perignon 2008 – Rating 5/5 This wine was from Champagne, France and sampled on April 3, 2020. This celebratory bottle was a gift from my…

Crownthorpe Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc

Crownthorpe Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc paired with Sticky Chipotle Ribs
September 18, 2019

The label of this wine had me feeling nostalgic, just like the feeling of the last week of August. School buses are back on their routes. Leaves are just starting to turn orange and red. The days are ending just a tad bit sooner than they had the week before. It’s that feeling that makes you put on your favorite record and finally delve into that book you meant to read all summer long.  Sauvignon Blanc is an old favorite of mine. It’s usually very approachable for someone new to wine. It has a fun name, light color, and no…

Boya Sauvignon Blanc

Boya Sauvignon Blanc paired with an Egg Scramble and Toast
March 27, 2019

With two solid weeks of sunshine here in Seattle, I was happy to see a bright white in my WineAwesomeness box. Spring had officially arrived and with it, the promise of warmer days with more hours of light to be shared with some lighter wines. I have not drank enough Sauvignon Blancs yet in my lifetime, because I always think of them as a zippier Pinto Grigio, so this week I set out to find out what made Sauvignon Blanc different and special. It turns out that Sauvignon Blanc is much more similar to Grüner Veltliner, which when I thought…

Folk Machine White Light

Folk Machine White Light paired with Jamaican Jerk Chicken & a Sweet Potato
April 25, 2018

This wine’s label was putting me in a fun mood and I hadn’t even opened it yet! The funny shapes of the Edison light bulbs and the use of some clever white space made this wine appear carefree and refreshing. I had high hopes for a perfect Spring wine. As you probably guessed, this was a white wine blend. It consisted of 40% Riesling, 30% Tocai Friulano, 11% Verdelho, 11% Sauvignon Blanc, and 8% Muscat. The wines were sourced from various areas in California keeping true with the Hobo Wine Company philosophy. Yes! A winery called the Hobo Wine Company…

Cumulus Wines Sauvignon Blanc Semillon

Cumulus Wines Sauvignon Blanc Semillon paired with a Hatch Green Chili Sausage and Parmesan Green Beans
April 11, 2018

This week has been such a whirlwind! From Dallas to Seattle and back again, we toured so many houses and apartments that we could barely keep them all straight. So, when I sat down on a Tuesday night to finally have a wine tasting again, it felt like I was getting my groove back. The label of this wine perpetuated that same feeling. Five friends depicted on a sunny day just sitting outside and enjoying the weather. This is how I could picture myself a few months from now after we would be all moved and able to relax again.…

Point Ormond Sauvignon Blanc

Point Ormond Sauvignon Blanc paired with Citrus Pulled Pork
February 22, 2018

This week, I was simply happy to be moving westward from New Zealand to Australia. I figured things had to start looking up if we moved a whole country over right? This wine was labeled in a playful way, which reminded me of the tree house we had when I was growing up. It almost made me want to get up and frolic about. The fun label matched the tagline of the company, which was, “Exciting, affordable wines of Australia.” * Point Ormond winery focuses on high acid, low alcohol wines, with an affordable price. In order to accomplish this,…

Blue Quail Sauvignon Blanc

Blue Quail Sauvignon Blanc paired with Seasoned Pork and Monterey Jack Cheese
December 4, 2017

October was shaping up to be a very familiar wine month. It was nice with the fall weather moving in to be able to reach for something more recognizable. I have tried several a Sauvignon Blanc and found them to be hit or miss most of the time. Sometimes they were just too light to hold up to pairing with anything and not flavorful enough to stand on their own. But we would see what this week had in store. Blue Quail Wines are grown on a completely organic vineyard on McFadden Farms. The vineyard is situated between the Russian…

Balance Sauvignon Blanc

November 12, 2017

I have to say, before trying this wine I definitely thought the logo for Balance Winery was absolutely adorable. A little elephant balancing on top of the winery? How cute! I looked into the winery online and found that they try to be the best wine they can for people with a budget. Their wines have won several awards from the “Ultra Value Wine Awards.” * I have to say; this did make me a little nervous. I thought maybe these awards are not really real and this is going to be a rough tasting night. But, with such an…

Tora Bay Sauvignon Blanc

November 12, 2017

This week marked the first week I would be trying a white wine since starting my blog and that had me quite excited. I do love red wine, but it was definitely time for a white. This wine would also be my first ever wine to try from New Zealand. Before I even opened the wine I wanted to take note of how gorgeous the bottle’s label was. The dark label really allowed the bright silver of the fish design to pop. It made me think of an island like New Zealand and I hoped to be transported there by…
