Point Ormond Sauvignon Blanc

Point Ormond Sauvignon Blanc paired with Citrus Pulled Pork

This week, I was simply happy to be moving westward from New Zealand to Australia. I figured things had to start looking up if we moved a whole country over right?

This wine was labeled in a playful way, which reminded me of the tree house we had when I was growing up. It almost made me want to get up and frolic about. The fun label matched the tagline of the company, which was, “Exciting, affordable wines of Australia.” *

Point Ormond winery focuses on high acid, low alcohol wines, with an affordable price. In order to accomplish this, they source grapes from different areas around Australia. *

The grapes used to create this wine were grown in the isolated southwestern edge of the continent in a generally cool climate. This cooler climate occurs in part due to the increased elevation and the sea breezes that blow inland. This region is also very popular for growing Riesling and Pinot Noir. *

This wine was from Franklin River, Australia and sampled on January 19, 2018. This wine almost looked like water in my glass, as it was nearly clear. There were very fruity scents coming from the glass, much like a juicy yellow pear. There was almost a sharpness to the first sip with how high the acidity was. I was listening to “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” by The Beach Boys. With the song and the wine, I was transported to an Australian beach on a blissfully clear day. I tasted freshly juiced green apples and a hint of grass. It tasted really great with the light and citrusy pulled pork.

I gave this wine a rating of 4.5. I loved how transported I felt by this wine. It was no longer January where I was. It was June and it made me feel warm and sunny. I would definitely like to try it again in the spring or summer.
