This week, it was all about trying something new. Verdejo was a varietal I’d never heard of, much less tried. I had just settled into a new townhouse in Seattle. I had also bought my first cookbook ever and decided to cook my way through it. This week would make for a combination of all of these things. While this marked the second wine I would try from the Alaia winemaker, it would be the first Verdejo for me. Verdejo is grown mostly in Spain and almost exclusively in the Rueda region. Outside of Spain, is not very well known,…
Antipasto Sangiovese
Summer was coming and with it, another canned wine. Even though this can was from the same company, Field Recordings, I must say the presentation was much more pleasing to the eye. I also noticed that this wine was a single varietal and not a blend this time. However, it was still a red. I was a little disappointed to not being trying a white this time, but the single varietal still had me intrigued. This wine was delivered as a two pack in lieu of a regular bottle and it really worked out for how I ended up drinking…
Estampa Reserva White Blend
I have to say; upon inspection I was not very impressed with this bottle of wine. The label seemed kind of blah. There was nothing about it that drew me in and with the light colored wine inside, it just made me think of dry wheat blowing in a field somewhere. That being said, I pushed my impressions aside and began my research. I discovered that the winery that made this wine was actually beautiful and very interesting. Just a quick tour of their website produced an image of their facility that was breathtaking. The architectural design is award winning…
Domaine de la Damase Grenache
I was really digging the word cloud style of this wine’s label when I first saw it. I’m always a fan of a good word cloud and I thought this was a pretty unique and fun way to label a wine. I was excited about this wine because it was 100% Grenache. Up until now I had only had Grenache in different red blends. Sometimes it made up about 90% of the bottle, but never a full bottle until now. In researching this vineyard and wine, I stumbled upon a website for the vineyard, which explained that it was operated…
Folk Machine White Light
This wine’s label was putting me in a fun mood and I hadn’t even opened it yet! The funny shapes of the Edison light bulbs and the use of some clever white space made this wine appear carefree and refreshing. I had high hopes for a perfect Spring wine. As you probably guessed, this was a white wine blend. It consisted of 40% Riesling, 30% Tocai Friulano, 11% Verdelho, 11% Sauvignon Blanc, and 8% Muscat. The wines were sourced from various areas in California keeping true with the Hobo Wine Company philosophy. Yes! A winery called the Hobo Wine Company…
Alaia Marisa Red Blend
This label appeared so interesting to me. It seemed rather mysterious. Every time I entered my kitchen I felt like it was calling out to me or daring me to open it and unravel the mysteries within. I was happy for a free night to sit down and pop it open finally. Living in Texas, I had had my fair share of Tempranillo wines. However, this Tempranillo was also mixed with Prieto Picudo at 70% and 30% respectively. Never having heard of Prieto Picudo, I started my research there. Prieto Picudo, when bottled solely is considered table wine from the…
Cumulus Wines Sauvignon Blanc Semillon
This week has been such a whirlwind! From Dallas to Seattle and back again, we toured so many houses and apartments that we could barely keep them all straight. So, when I sat down on a Tuesday night to finally have a wine tasting again, it felt like I was getting my groove back. The label of this wine perpetuated that same feeling. Five friends depicted on a sunny day just sitting outside and enjoying the weather. This is how I could picture myself a few months from now after we would be all moved and able to relax again.…
Stone Hill Winery Norton Old Vine Reserve
This was an enormously important week in terms of both wine and life decisions. My husband accepted a position with Amazon in Seattle. Seattle is our favorite place in the U.S. We have visited several times for work and for leisure. It’s the first place my husband ever flew to. It’s the first vacation we ever took together. It’s also the place that we got engaged, so it holds so many specials memories for us. We are very excited to be moving there and we decided to celebrate by opening our most special bottle of wine. We had been saving…
Sento Bene Wines Primitivo
The month of March really was taking on that old motto and coming in right like a lion. With a nor’easter sweeping over the northeast US and the rain not letting up here in the South, it was beginning to feel like spring would never really come. Fortunately, the next wine in my lineup was a delightful looking red. It was just what I needed to combat this groundhog-despising mood. I had not heard of the Primitivo grape before so I started my research there. I quickly discovered that Primitivo and Zinfandel are the same grape! Primitivo is grown in…
Yardstick Wines Red Blend
Here was another Lekker labeled wine for this week as well! This time it was a full on red blend. I had not been too impressed with the chenin blanc from last week, but for some reason this nice looking red was calling out to me. Maybe it was the fact that it was the last day of February. The month of love and the last of the winter months were coming to an end and it felt like this might be just the wine to bid it adieu with. This wine was made in partnership with the winery Yardstick…
