La Perdrix Costieres de Nimes Rouge

La Perdrix Costieres de Nimes Rouge paired with Steak and a Sweet Potato

I found myself with another wine from La Perdrix this week and a husband who wanted to grill steaks. Fortunately for me, the wine was a red and my husband is excellent at grilling steaks. I prepped some sweet potatoes and we were all set!

This wine was a blend of 45% Grenache, 35% Syrah, and 20% Carignan. My husband’s favorite varietal so far has been Syrah, so I was very pleased to have something along the lines that I hoped he would enjoy. Since we had already learned so recently about the region this wine was from and history behind it’s naming, we went ahead and dove right into a tasting together.

If you would like to learn more about this winery, please refer to my blog post here.

This wine was from the Rhône Valley in France and sampled on October 21, 2018. We were listening to “Feathered Indians” by Tyler Childers. The first whiff produced a scent of overripe black cherries. More whiffs resulted in the scents of crisp fall leaves and dark stone fruits. There was a surprising amount of acidity in the first sip. It was quite heavy on it’s own with some hefty tannins. It paired fairly well with the steak in that it could hold it’s own. It definitely required a food pairing of some sort in order to drink it. It was not a drink alone type of wine.

I gave this wine a rating of 2.0. It was just too heavy all around. We wouldn’t have continued to drink it at all had we not been eating food that could also hold it’s ground.
