June 2020 Wines

July 1, 2020

June has been a whirlwind of a month. Restrictions have been lifting on stay-at-home orders, and then almost immediately they were being put back in place as virus cases shot up. There is a lot of discord related to the wearing and not wearing of masks. People are making a real effort and showing up for the Black Lives Matter movement. June also marks the summer solstice as well as National Rosé Day. My husband ran a 100-mile race in less than 24 hours, and I tried three different Rosés. We’ve got some different priorities. Haha! March 2020 Wines

April 15, 2020

Well, I thought February was a long month, but now it seems like a distant dream. March has been absolutely unprecedented. COVID-19 is rapidly changing the world as we know it. Everyone is now practicing social distancing and working from home when possible. As someone who already worked from home, I haven’t had as much of a transition as most people. I’m very thankful for that. However, as a usual work-from-homer, I fully encourage the wearing sweatpants daily as well as picking up a new hobby. I suggest wine tasting! January 2020 Wines

February 6, 2020

This year in wine tasting started out a little rough. I started with three 2-star ratings in a row. However, the end of the month rounded out quite well with a 4- and a 5-star. Also, welcome to the new blog format! I will now be doing a roundup of all of the wines I’ve tried during the month, making for a more concise list of information and ratings. I hope you enjoy! Traversa 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon – Rating 2/5 This wine was from Montevideo, Uruguay and sampled on January 5, 2020. I didn’t even know Uruguay grew wine grapes…

Barnard Griffin Mammoth III

Barnard Griffin Mammoth III paired with New York Strip Steak and Sweet Potato Fries
October 30, 2019

This week’s wine marks a very significant happening for me. The journal that I purchased to log my wine tastings is now officially complete. This wine marks the final entry in that journal and completes a journey that began almost two years ago. I’ve learned quite a bit since I originally bought the journal. I know the difference between Syrah and Petite Syrah. I know never to scoff at a wine blend. I know that Rosé is more than just summer water.  My journey won’t be ending here though. I’ve already purchased a new wine journal from Wine Folly, an…

Little Vineyards Band Blend

Little Vineyards Band Blend paired with Chicken Fajita Burrito
May 1, 2019

This week’s wine looked like it would be a lot of fun. The label resembled a ticket to a live show of some sort. It gave off those festival vibes just in time for the start of festival season. I was expecting something easy drinking and ready to share with friends. This “Band Blend” was actually a red blend of 57% Zinfandel, 32% Teroldego, 5% Petite Syrah, 3% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 3% Petit Verdoh. I knew of Zinfandel, Petite Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon; but Teroldego and Petit Verdoh were new to me so I started my research there.  Teroldego is…

Jean Marc Barthez Bordeaux Rouge

Jean Marc Barthez Bordeaux Rouge paired with Sharp Cheddar
April 3, 2019

Do you ever buy cheese and not stop thinking about it sitting in the fridge? I mean it’s just sitting there all delectable looking and ready to be eaten. How am I supposed to get anything done with deliciousness like that in the house? It’s just me? Haha! I’m fine with that.  This was exactly what happened to me this week. I picked up some sharp cheddar at the grocery store and I could not wait to pair it with an equally delicious wine. I picked up my research there to see what I should be looking for. Wine Folly…

Alaia Marisa Red Blend

Alaia Marisa Red Blend paired with Sweet Potato Chicken Nachos
April 18, 2018

This label appeared so interesting to me. It seemed rather mysterious. Every time I entered my kitchen I felt like it was calling out to me or daring me to open it and unravel the mysteries within. I was happy for a free night to sit down and pop it open finally. Living in Texas, I had had my fair share of Tempranillo wines. However, this Tempranillo was also mixed with Prieto Picudo at 70% and 30% respectively. Never having heard of Prieto Picudo, I started my research there. Prieto Picudo, when bottled solely is considered table wine from the…

Yardstick Wines Red Blend

Yardstick Wines Red Blend
March 14, 2018

Here was another Lekker labeled wine for this week as well! This time it was a full on red blend. I had not been too impressed with the chenin blanc from last week, but for some reason this nice looking red was calling out to me. Maybe it was the fact that it was the last day of February. The month of love and the last of the winter months were coming to an end and it felt like this might be just the wine to bid it adieu with. This wine was made in partnership with the winery Yardstick…

Chateau Allegret Bordeaux Rouge

Chateau Allegret Bordeaux Rouge paired with Veggie Pizza
February 1, 2018

Even after last week’s only okay white from Chateau Allegret, I was still interested to see what a red would be like from the same winery and region. Since 90% of wines that come from Bordeaux are red*, I was keeping my hopes up. The label was still just as lovely as what had come on the white, but I was trying not to be too enchanted by it this time around. This wine consisted of a classic Bordeaux blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. These two vines originated in Bordeaux.* What better place to try these varietals from then?…

Field Recordings Red Blend

December 4, 2017

This was a week that had me a little apprehensive but I had been looking forward to it for quite a while. I was just waiting for the perfect day. The day had come. I would be trying my first wine in a can! This meant I could finally have wine at the pool without pouring it into a plastic cup. I then began to think of all of the possibilities. I could go to the beach and finally leave behind feeling bloated from all of the effervescence coming from my usual cans. What a life! It seems like this…
