Well, I thought February was a long month, but now it seems like a distant dream. March has been absolutely unprecedented. COVID-19 is rapidly changing the world as we know it. Everyone is now practicing social distancing and working from home when possible. As someone who already worked from home, I haven’t had as much of a transition as most people. I’m very thankful for that. However, as a usual work-from-homer, I fully encourage the wearing sweatpants daily as well as picking up a new hobby. I suggest wine tasting!
Silicon Valley Wine Co. 2017 ONESandZEROS Red – Rating 4.5/5
This wine was from California and sampled on March 4, 2020. My day job is in the tech world, so this bottle appealed to me in particularly. It’s neat to see tech and wine coming together. I was listening to “Cocoon” by Japanese Wallpaper. In the glass, this was a deep ruby color. Scents of cloves, nutmeg, and rhubarb pie drifted from the glass. I got crushed berries with a silky texture at the front. The body was on the heavier side along with tannins, acidity, and alcohol. It was very warming with a medium finish and a hint of vanilla. I paired this with pepperoni pizza, and it made for the perfectly comforting and cozy meal.
Chateau Ste. Michelle 2018 Grüner Veltliner – Rating 4.5/5
This wine was from the Columbia Valley vineyard in the Columbia Valley AVA in Eastern Washington and sampled on March 10, 2020. This came in our wine club box from the winery. I was listening to “Repita” by Andrew Combs. The color of this wine was pale straw. It definitely matched the scents of lemon and honeysuckle freshness. The first taste made me think, “Zippy!” It’s high acidity with a medium finish. Tannins were low. Tastes included lemon, green apple, and white pepper. I paired this with salmon, green beans, and a sweet potato. It added a little zip to the meal without being too sweet.
Chateau Ste. Michelle 2017 Ethos Reserve Chardonnay – Rating 2/5
This wine was from Lawrence, Old Creek, and Two Gun vineyards in the Columbia Valley AVA in Eastern Washington and sampled on March 25, 2020. I was excited to try a new wine from our spring wine club shipment, but unfortunately, this one didn’t work out as well as the last. It had the typical medium yellow color of Chardonnay. I caught scents of oak, white flowers, and sunshine. The taste was heavy on the lemon and butter. There was a little sweetness with low acidity and light body and tannins. The texture was smooth and silky. It was better with food. I was listening to “If We Were Vampires” by Jason Isbell. I paired with the smoke chicken, acorn squash, and green beans.
