RAW Rosé

RAW Rosé paired with Prosciutto-Wrapped Mozzarella and Fruit

On the cusp of a three-day weekend I was more than happy to see a Rosé on deck for this week’s wine. With the label, this one was giving off edgy vibes, which got me pumped up for the research behind it.

RAW stands for “Really Awesome Wines.”  RAW creates wines in partnership with Bodegas Latúe. This wine cooperative operates in Spain and specializes in organic and vegan wines. The cooperative started in 1954 and currently operates with 131 wine growers. The working goals of the cooperative are to provide economic and social sustainability for their relatively small community. *

One interesting aspect of this wine is that no varietal was listed anywhere that I could find, so I had no way to know which grapes made up this bottle. I assumed it was a blend of some sort and not a single varietal, especially considering that it comes from a cooperative.  Only the winemakers know!

This wine was from Villanueva de Alcardete, Spain and sampled on May 25, 2019. The bright pink color of this wine felt fun and festive. The scents of wild strawberries growing in a field of honeysuckle and white flowers tickled my nose. I was listening to “Summer Girls” by LFO and basking in the reality that summer was almost here. The high acidity is what hit me first in the taste. It was very lemony! Raspberry was also prominent. The acidity cut through the fat of the prosciutto wrapped mozzarella. However, I started wishing that the wine had a bit more flavor instead of such high acidity. It was just hard to move past. It did not pair well at all with the fruit because of it.

I gave this wine a rating of 2.0. It was not drinkable without something very fatty alongside it.
