La Perdrix Costieres de Nimes Blanc

La Perdrix Costieres de Nimes Blanc paired with Nachos

To be honest, I was saving this bottle from my monthly shipment for last because it was the most intriguing. The gold color shined from the bottle and seethed richness. The label, with its partridge art reminded me of the paintings hung in my grandparents’ house of different depictions of grouse in hunting scenes.

Perdrix means partridge and when I looked up this winery I was unsurprised to find that its name was based on a hunting reference. The region this winery is located in was a very popular area for hunting and was a particular favorite of King Louis IX of France. *

The La Perdrix winery is located in one of the southernmost regions of the Rhône Valley in France. While the region is mostly used for red wine production, this white wine came out of that small 10% of white grapes grown in the area. It is a blend of 70% Roussane and 30% Grenache Blanc. Of the 10% of white grapes grown in the Rhône Valley, these two are the most popular. However, Marsanne, Bourboulenc, Clairette, Vermentino and Viognier are also grown here. As with the reds from this region, the whites are known to be hearty and fruit-forward. *

This wine was from the Rhône Valley, in France and sampled on September 25, 2018. Loads of pineapple scent hit my nostrils before I even picked up the now straw yellow colored glass. The pineapple flavor then continued through into the taste. It was accompanied by white peach as well. The acidity was low and despite the fruit flavors, it didn’t come off as too sweet. It was a little weird with the nachos, but I wasn’t really surprised by this. The nachos were just a food that needed to be eaten and not a very well planned out pairing.

I gave this wine a rating of 3.0. It was good, but not great. It would make for a nice sharing wine to start the night with.
