Gia Coppola #Overit Rosé

Gia Coppola #Overit Rosé paired with Bacon Wrapped Asparagus & Green Beans

It seems only fitting that I should be writing about a rosé just as summer comes to a close. It’s been quite a fun-filled and busy summer this year. We’ve moved across the country, discovered new foods and local places, been visited by some of our best friends and family, and made lots of new friends as well. Thank goodness we had some good rosé along for the ride.

This wine came from the hashtag collection of wines created by Gia Coppola and the winemakers at Francis Ford Coppola Winery. This collection of wines was said to, “be inspired by Gia Coppola’s creative personality, made for the hashtag generation.” This rosé was a blend of Grenache and Mouvèdre grapes and was aged in stainless steel.

While traditional wine lovers and experts might scoff at this collection, I think it’s very interesting. It’s non-conforming and spunky. It feels fresh and new when so much about the wine industry feels old. Even with the bottle displaying a bible and an older-style telephone, it doesn’t make the wine seem traditional. If anything it makes it seem as if someone took a photograph of their grandmother’s side table and then posted it on Instagram with a sepia filter of some sort. It’s comfortable and approachable and aren’t we all over wine being unapproachable?

This wine was from Paso Robles, California and sampled on August 15, 2018. I was instantly hit with scents of salt and sea, maybe even a little poolside smell. I was listening to “Sandstorm” by Darude. My first taste just made me think, “super crisp!” I almost zipped right out of my seat! There was a bit of strawberry taste and maybe a little lemon. There could not have been a better compliment to pulled pork than this.

I gave this wine a rating of 4.0. It was a great rosé all around and a perfect way to end summer with the last of the barbecue. I may pick up a case of this or see if I can get it in a pack with the other hashtag collection wines so that I can try those as well.
