Estampa Reserva White Blend

Estampa Reserva White Blend paired with a Charcuterie Board

I have to say; upon inspection I was not very impressed with this bottle of wine. The label seemed kind of blah. There was nothing about it that drew me in and with the light colored wine inside, it just made me think of dry wheat blowing in a field somewhere.

That being said, I pushed my impressions aside and began my research.  I discovered that the winery that made this wine was actually beautiful and very interesting. Just a quick tour of their website produced an image of their facility that was breathtaking. The architectural design is award winning and something that I would love to see in person.

Beyond just the facility lay a tale quite magical. Estampa received it’s name from a legendary story about a traveling salesman that while selling his prayer cards, or estampas, one took flight and astonished a crowd for about 15 minutes before it landed. The site where the card landed was memorialized and later, a Catholic chapel was erected on it. *

The Estampa winery is the only winery in Chile that blends all of the wine that it sells. The winery prides itself on finding the perfect portion of each grape and then balancing them together to achieve the end result. * This particular wine is 90% Viognier and 10% Chardonnay.

This wine was from Colchagua, Chile and sampled on May 1, 2018. I observed the straw color that poured out much the same as from the bottle. I inhaled the smells of pineapple and lemon meringue pie. I was listening to “The Funeral” by Band of Horses. It had a surprising bit of bite to it, but it was in a delicious sort of way. More lemon tastes came through followed by honey and a tiny bit of white flowers. It was very intriguing. It was really nice when paired with the Prosciutto and cheese, but a little too similar in taste to go well with the fruit.

I gave this wine a rating of 4.5. I was totally surprised by it and that was lovely to discover. I think it would make a wonderful wine to enjoy all summer long and it was a wonderful usage of the Chardonnay grape.
