I have to admit. I was a little more excited to taste the food I made for this week than the wine. Come on though! Who doesn’t like chicken parmesan. I was hoping this would turn out to be a great pairing that would enhance the dish altogether and make for a wonderful meal.
The grapes for this wine were grown in the Pacific Northwest, which holds a special place in my heart and is my favorite wine region. I have not had a bad experience with any wine from this region yet. We could blame it on my love for the area, but why don’t we all go ahead and pretend that this region is perfection?
Rock Point wine is actually a branch of Del Rio Vineyards. Two of the Del Rio Vineyard Estate owners branched off to create a private label while still operating under the Del Rio family of wines. The label takes it’s name from the rock formation that it is closest to known as “rock point” or “rocky point.” The winemakers state that they made this wine to coincide with the wild side of Oregon. They recommend these wines to be enjoyed after a beloved outdoor activity such as hiking or paddling. But they also suggest that they can be just as pleasant simply dining alfresco.
This wine was from Gold Hill, Oregon and sampled on November 18, 2017. This wine gleamed with a beautiful straw color straight from the bottle. The scent resembled wheat fields. I could imagine walking through one in crisp fall air just before harvest. The first taste was very satisfying. It was a great example of Pinot Gris. The same crispness that I could pick up in the scent also came through in the taste. I was listening to “Ain’t It Fun” by Paramore. The more I sipped, the more salt I could taste. It was a good compliment to the chicken.
I gave this wine a rating of 4.0. It was just the compliment to my chicken parmesan that I would have liked and it was also a great white wine for fall.
