Jeannette Eger Riesling

Jeannette Eger Riesling paired with BBQ Chicken

I was very excited for this week! I would be trying a Riesling that I had chosen from Wine Awesomeness for winning Instagrammer of the week. Each week they choose an Instagram post based on tags used to win a free bottle of wine from their site. Bonus! You get to pick it out!

Jeannette Eger’s story is a rather interesting one. She grew up deep in German wine country and her family owned a very large vineyard. She worked with them until she felt the yearning to produce something all her own and on a much smaller scale. She struck up a deal with her family and now runs her own small amount of acreage where all the work is done by hand. She produces one wine, Riesling.*

Riesling has almost a cult following to it. Many people think it’s just off-brand super sweet sparkling wine, but they would be so very wrong. Most Rieslings are not that super sweet at all, but instead dry. In order to get a real sense of what Riesling truly is, all you have to do is try a few! This would make for a very fun tasting party wine because you could choose dry, off-dry, and sweet varietals and for fun throw in the more rare pink variant of Riesling, Roter Riesling.

This wine was from Pfalz, Germany, and sampled on September 22, 2017. The liquid itself produced a simple straw color in the glass. Scents of grapefruit wafted playfully from it. There were also mineral scents underneath. I was listening to “The Robots” by Kraftwerk. There was a definite orange peel taste with the first sip. It was also a bit sour. The sour taste was toned down somewhat when paired with the baked chicken. The high acidity sticks with you throughout the entire glass.

I gave this wine a rating of 4.0. It really was a great wine and would serve as a perfect introduction to Riesling for anyone!
